not listening to the radio goes horribly right

For the last six months or maybe two years, I haven’t really listened to the radio.   My iPod has provided.  Yesterday, I heard the radio for a few hours, the longest time in a long time.  It was great.  The music was better.  I wasn’t sick of all the same old crap.  The walls in my life of iTunes and Pandora came crashing down, and although as I speak 4 year old Red Hot Chilli Peppers plays, I anticipate Alejandro by Lady Gaga or Your Love is my Drug by Kesha (maybe Ke$ha, not sure completely on the name-I see both) will play, courtesy of an awesome website called Grooveshark.

It sounds like this stuff is better than the crap I left behind a few years ago.  I’m sure, however, by the time I get to the bottom of the bag this stuff will become as stale as the songs I abandoned last decade.

you cant spell “a grocery store” without “great”

As it turns out, grocery shopping is great.  Up until about two months ago I lived under the foolish impression that it sucked.  Maybe its my age, maybe its my sudden appreciation for Target that has caused me to start grocery shopping regularly.

End result: tootsie roll pops, lots of corn chips, lots of popcorn, regular supplies of cereal and granola bars.  Also a lot of meat and bread goes bad.

I live in America, where my biggest problem concerning food is deciding where I am going to get it from, carrying it into my apartment and unlocking the door at the same time, and trying not to eat too much of it.  But I live in America, so those are problems, and despite the fact that I can write a blog accessible by billions of people around the world (accessed by hundreds),  they will remain problems.  This blogging helps me deal.

In the big scheme of things, where I get my food from makes very little difference.   But you read this far, so it must be interesting.  That’s something to hang my hat on.

finally starting to climb the food ladder

Gotta hand it to Taco Bell.  They are really masters of their field.  They are the Michael Jordan of fast food.  Over the past few months, because of my rapidly rising age and concern for my health, I have abandoned McDonald.  The one retail establishment that I thought represented me, now gone, along with my teenage years and love of Ja Rule.  Lurking in the shadows was Taco Bell, with food equally as dangerous but somewhat less guilt inducing.  And it, along with deli meat sandwiches and lean beef hamburgers, fills the emmense void McDonalds is leaves.  I cop bean burritos like its no big deal, passing on the Mountain Dew Baja Blast for a more mature glass of water.  Plus, its closer to my TV and easier to eat.

So, now, one question and a thought:

  • Does Taco Bell have a better deliciousness/healthy ratio?
  • Is it possible that the loss of McDonalds is one of most epic changes yet in my 23 year long life?

BAE nominations, including rundown

Pandora, Cereal, Corn, Netflix, Fiber, TED talks

Pandora (entertainment) – Its free music that picks itself.  That is really nice.  It has gotten a bit addy recently, but I feel like is worth it.  I’m not about to visit lovely Jackson, Mississippi, but Ill give their ad a look.  I mean, the music is free.  Unfortunately for Pandora (and facebook (and pandora’s BAE hopes)), they now know who my facebook friends are and randomly tell me when they like something I listen too.  Then I cant stop thinking about that person listening to that song and I so I change it.

Cereal (food) – Real big on this one recently.  A bowl a day, every night.  Cinnamon Streusel Mini Wheats sealed this nomination.

Corn (food) – Is there anything it cant do?

Netflix (entertainment) – I still haven’t sent back Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire.

TED talks (entertainment) – Really informative and entertaining.  Just the right length, and free.

Ive already decided who wins but I won’t tell until later.

Other notes

I enjoyed watching Ultimate Chili Challenge on TLC last night.  I think it is the first thing I have enjoyed watching on TLC since the Clinton administration.  IMO, TLC has sank lower than MTV.  Or is it sunk?  Either way, the drama and overproduction really added to the Chili.  Glad the channel’s theme of “Life Surprises” includes chili cooking.

From the world of food, Ive really been big on the following food retailers recently: Jimmy Johns, Chipotle, Ichiban Japanese Steakhouse, and Subway.  Interesting fact: Jimmy Johns has messed up my order the last 6 times ive ordering from them.  Every time, something has been wrong, no joke.  The last time, they forgot my girlfriend’s Sweet Tea, and the time before that they sent her sandwich with no meat or cheese, just lettuce.  Seriously.  Its you-know-who is working there or something.  But we keep ordering.  Its that damn bread; its so good.

BAE and some other stuff on my mind this morning

Its a really tough decision, but the next BAE is going to this website in the field of technology.  Its a controversial pick, but even with this websites inconsistency it is still one of the best overall things.  Congratulations.

Id like to thank myself for this honor, since I have made this site.  Apparently, I have done a really good job.

Recent Cool and Crappy stuff

Cool

  • Netflix.  Still Rocking it hard.  I upgraded my subscription to 2 out at anytime.  This is really because I am just lazy and always forget to mail my movies back.  Either way, 14 bucks a month, unlimited streaming and as many DVDs as I can circulate.  Its a great deal.
  • Twitter.  I have rejected it several times in the past year, but now I am in love.  For me it isn’t about the twitting, its about the following.  I get tons of great information on weather, news, and sports, from great twitters such as @Spann, @mashable, @espn, and @cnnbrk.  I do not think I could do without it.
  • Mozilla Firefox.  I think its better than chrome.  I go back and forth, but the plugins push it over the top.

Crappy

  • Facebook.  I do my best to ignore the beast.  I think its the devil, but that may be an exaggeration.  It is really changing society, and its policies on privacy and content removal are slightly nauseating.  It is just so darn addictive.
  • Hockey.  That phase passed in a hurry.  I enjoyed my three weeks of being a hockey fan, but I soon found out that I cared less about the NHL than I do the NFL.  It was hard to pick a team to pull for, and that is even in playoff time, where every game actually counted for something.  I will like it again after the next winter olympics, just you wait and see.
  • Gulf of Mexico oil spill.  If this were only in another country I wouldn’t even be mentioning it.  But its not, its about 250 miles away from where I’m sitting right now.  Obama better get to work on cleaning it up or all the blame will be on hime.  All the blame.

april 27, 2010

Dear Internet,

I just put my TV on The Hills.   I dont watch TV much, and whenever I do I seek out the worst crap like just now.  So far, Ive seen a music montage of bar scenes, a rhapsody commercial targeted at girls, a sonic commercial, an iphone commercial, and and a sugar free jello commercial.

Ok now a tampon commercial, still no tv show.  Macgrubber trailer, gillette deodorant commercial…comcast commercial…local furniture store ad…

Yay music montage of beach scenes!  A girl named Lo, her feet hurt.  OMG this really hoarse girl came home at 5 am!

Music montage of beach scenes…no…wait…were in aspen now.  Plastic girl is full of hot air.  Now shes crying, Im done.  This is the stupidest shit ive ever seen.

Thanks, blog, for listening to me tonight.  Your always here.

Your author,

Philgram

corn

As you might have noticed from the latests BAE noms, I have recently developed a taste for corn.   Everything corn.  So much that I have been pushing corn products on my friends and family.  They accuse me of working for big corn but really I’m not.  Ive even thrown around the idea of declaring “Corn Week” sometime soon, but thats a big step.

Pros and Cons: Corn

Pros:

  • delicious
  • healthy
  • safe
  • kerneled
  • high energy
  • low fat
  • American
  • you can pop it
  • shows up in your poop

Cons:

  • the cob

Its easy to see why corn is so awesome.  Its a favorite for a BAE, but theres good competition.
